Anxiety and Depression Counselling
If you, or someone you know, suffers from depression or anxiety you'll know just how disabling it can be. At Shape It Up! our job is to help you find lifestyle solutions that enable you to engage more with life and stay healthy physically, emotionally and mentally. For this reason one of the areas of counselling we've chosen to specialise in is depression and anxiety - because of its potential to hold you back from enjoying your life.
Because depression and anxiety are invisible medical conditions they are sometimes not taken as seriously by friends, family and employers as a more visible disability, like a physical disability or illness. We recognise both depression and anxiety as real conditions and we also recognise your need to be heard and understood.
We've mentioned throughout this site how we are focused on achieving great outcomes for our clients, however, we also understand that counselling for depression is about coping, sometimes just one day at a time. For this reason, whilst we will make suggestions to help you to improve your life we also understand the battles you face and we won't push you to achieve, we'll recognise the very real challenges you are facing and work with you to find your personal best outcome.
There are different approaches to counselling for depression and anxiety and we structure our counselling sessions in different ways to suit the needs of each client, however, we always place the main emphasis on listening to you and providing support and encouragement. We will talk about potential reasons for your depression, as well as your history with the condition. We'll also look at how to cope with stress and make small changes to your lifestyle that can aid the process of coping and recovery.
We do not offer specific counselling for suicidal thinking or self harming, please see your GP or seek the services of a registered psychologist to assist you with these issues. If the matter is urgent you may wish to call Lifeline, a free 24 hour crisis counselling service on: 13 11 14 or the Suicide Call Back service on 1300 659 467.
